What do I mean by carefully selected? Basically, I mean used and tested by professional climbers and guides. I look primarily for function, versatility and reliability, but I also consider value and style.
Because mountaineering is physically demanding and the amount of gear that we can carry is limited, every piece of gear must be carefully considered. Classic mountaineering philosophies suggest a less is more approach. The French climbing guide, Gaston Rebuffat, advised, “when packing the rucksack remember, weight is the enemy.” He also said, “don't forget anything,”…a challenging contradiction every time.
Every climber goes through a learning process in deciding what is too much and what is not enough. My advice is to experiment—leave a few things out, consider every single item, dare to be a little cold (you may surprise yourself…and learn some new tricks). The rewards of packing light are greater comfort and safety.

Montbell Thermawrap Pro
All backcountry adventurers, regardless of ability or specialty, will find the Thermawrap Pro an integral part of their layering system. The Thermawrap PRO embodies Light & Fast™, the PRO is Montbell's next generation synthetic parka. After collecting feedback from countless hardcore users they have updated the fit and altered the material mix, while remaining true to the heritage of the original Thermawrap hoodie.
Suited to a wide range of applications this parka leverages light-weight construction, 80 grams of high lofting hydro-phobic insulation, and wind resistant 30-denier nylon to yield the mid-weight warmth critical when tackling mixed or wet conditions.
Petzl Lynx Crampon
Petzl once again did what we all thought about. All discussed. It made a crampon that can fit a wide range of footwear. No longer will you have the need for two, three, four pairs of crampons. With the LYNX as long as your boots have a rear welt for a heel lever you are set to go. Worn out front lug? Not a problem. Have a set of plastic boots and a softer leather? The LYNX has you covered.
Petzl LYNX is a modular crampon for ice and mixed climbing. From snow couloirs to dry tooling, the LYNX is a versatile crampon. Modular front points allow for many options: dual or mono-point, long or short, and/or asymmetrical. They come with two types of interchangeable front bindings to adapt to boots with or without toe welts.
Our quest to find the perfect balance of warmth, weight, and performance has resulted in a very exciting new garment, the Hooded Flash jacket. We designed this jacket to provide sufficient warmth for the less extreme climate ranges with the least amount of weight. The shell fabric is a tightly woven material that weighs only 0.9 oz. per square yard! There are no cordlocks on this garment because we have finished the hood and waist with lightweight elastic piping to seal out the cold. The pockets are insulated with down on both sides, and the full zipper has insulated draft protection. This jacket is both comfortable and functional. It is extremely lightweight and has just enough warmth, yet its not too bulky.
